Update (10/18/07) Thanks to WP-Ban, I was able to ban these lurkers. And I love how it logs the number of times these lurkers come to visit. SMH. And yes, GeoCities DID terminate that girl’s account. So, all of that is taken care… For now.
I’m in need of some rantings, so here goes:
I’ve had some lurkers that are pissing me off. Especially two, in particular. I have no idea who this person is, but s/he has been trying to snoop around my WP plug-ins and themes folders! If you’re wondering what kind of plug-ins or how I did what, all you have to do is ASK. There’s no shame in that. I’m not going to be some b*tch and ignore you. Ugh…
Second, some snatch direct-linked my music player to her page. I’ve worked HOURS on that, and took the time to extract those tracks from CD’s in my personal library. For someone to blatantly take it without permission is by far inconsiderate! I’m not going to plug her because she doesn’t deserve any attention to her shitty GeoCities page. I know she’s one of many lurkers, because her IP keeps getting logged in my Awstats.
So, here’s a little message for her:
Thanks for killing my bandwidth. You must be so in love with your crap of what you call “a work of art”, that you must refresh it quite a number of times. You’re such a doll! By the way, don’t be surprised when GeoShitties terminates your account within the next couple of hours. And yes, you’re f*cking welcome!
Now that I have all of that out of my system, I’m going to meditate a bit.

I never understood people stealing from other people’s sites. Even when I was JUST starting out, I did all of my own stuff, and if anything harassed the better designers for tips.

Some people are so sad. Stealing music players/bandwidth is pathetic. I hate hearing cases like this..people too cheap to get their own shit. I know it has to be annoying.

thats messed up. that girl must not have a life. i wouldn’t think that people wouldn’t steal swf files. because thats why i started doing swf files for my music. i remember when people used my mp3 files and stole a big chunk of my bandwidth

i know I already commented, but I want to point out that sometimes people lurk because it’s a quicker solution than asking. It can take a webmaster a couple days to get back to you, so sometimes taking a lil peek will do the trick, and oftentimes I spy on people’s stylesheets with no intention of COPYing anything, just borrowing a piece of code to fit my needs.

How do you find out if someone is direct linking something of yours?

It doesn’t bother if people look at my CSS file to see how I did what. It’s more about people snooping through my core (admin) and certain theme files. Some theme files are vulnerable because it contains critical database information.
Right now, I’m learning how to do (but more importantly, understand) certain hacks within WP that is more secure. But for now, I have to continue using hacks I know even though there are some security issues with them.
